About our makers
Why we only stock small batch
Almost everything on this page is made by a handful of people in a commercial kitchen, not a factory. That’s deliberate. Small makers take risks a national brand can’t: fermenting for months, building a sauce around one pepper variety, or using fruit that’s only good for three weeks a year.
We buy direct wherever we can
Sourcing straight from the maker instead of through a distributor means more of what you spend reaches the person who cooked it, and the bottles arrive fresher. It also means we can ask the questions that end up on our product pages: which peppers, what it’s good on, how hot it really is.
Tasted before we take a maker on
No brand gets listed until we’ve opened a bottle. Each sauce is rated on the same four-level scale (mild, medium, hot or extra hot), so the scale means the same thing whether you’re buying from a Vermont bakery or a Texas competition team. More about how we choose →
