Heartbeat Scorpion, which Heartbeat counts among the hottest in its lineup, features Trinidad Scorpion peppers with an unusual mix of beets, red bell peppers, habaneros and chipotles in adobo, and keeps the balanced versatility Heartbeat is known for. It’s hot but not too hot, as Heartbeat puts it, and it was the sixth sauce on Season 13 of Hot Ones, at 66,000 Scovilles.

About the maker
Fermented hot sauces from Thunder Bay, Ontario, started as a home hobby in 2015 by Nancy Shaw and Al Bourbouhakis.
Heartbeat’s sauces are hand-crafted with all-natural ingredients and no added water or preservatives. Red Habanero is the classic, joined by Blueberry Habanero, Pineapple Habanero, Dill Pickle Serrano, Lion’s Mane Piri Piri and a shiitake Szechuan sauce called Darkside of the Grill. Most are medium.
What hot actually means
30,000–350,000 SHU on the SCOVILLED scale. Habanero territory: heat that lingers, with room left for flavor.
