Fat Cat Purry-Purry, the company’s flagship sauce, is its version of piri-piri (or peri-peri) sauce: a Thai- and Asian-inspired mix of caramelized onions, garlic, ginger and tomatoes with peri-peri peppers, small red chilies with a powerful back heat. It’s a medium sauce, which Fat Cat puts at 3,000 to 7,000 on the Scoville scale, and it won first place for ethnic sauces at the 2012 Hot Pepper Awards and the African division at the 2013 Cajun Hot Sauce Festival.
It’s kept thick, so brush it over grilled meat, chicken and vegetables, spread it on sandwiches, toss it with wings or use it as a dip. Fat Cat even whisks it with oil and vinegar for a salad dressing. Fat Cat Gourmet, started in Florida in 2009 by husband and wife Eyal Goldshmid and Deborah Moskowitz, is named for their 23-pound cat, Tiggy.
