Haffs Mari Lwyd is a super mild holiday sauce of cranberries, apples and raisins with Scotch bonnet and aji amarillo peppers, agave and ginger, from Bryan Mehaffey’s grandmother’s recipe. It’s named for the Mari Lwyd, a Welsh Christmas folk custom in which a hobby horse made from a horse’s skull goes from door to door, trading songs with the people inside.
Try it on lamb, pork and turkey, with stuffing at the holiday meal, on sandwiches and fries, or anywhere you want a tart, spicy kick. Haffs Hot Sauce is Bryan Mehaffey’s small-batch company in New Philadelphia, Ohio.
