Death By Chocolate is the flagship sauce of Black Eyed Susan Spice Co. in Frederick, Maryland, built on the chocolate habanero pepper with cocoa as a nod to its Mesoamerican roots. Apples, carrots, peaches, molasses and garlic go into the base, with a touch of natural smoke flavor.
Among its awards are a bronze medal at the 2020 Scovie Awards (World Beat, Hot) and first place for Caribbean hot sauces at the 2021 International Flavor Awards. This is the hot version; for the same flavors with less heat, try Death By Chocolate (Mild).
